Insurtech Australia is excited to be collaborating with DLA Piper for our next Melbourne meetup on 25 July 2018!

A recent report by EY (‘Insurtech: Enabler or Disrupter?’) identified blockchain as being one of the ‘Big 5’ technologies on the radar of insurance executives and that it stands to have the most significant long-term impact across the industry’s value chain. However, despite significant development and adoption of blockchain technology, it remains somewhat mysterious to most of us. I mean, who really understands it? Probably not many of us.

Join us to learn from Kiersten Jowett, RMIT’s Blockchain Business Strategy Mentor and an all-round blockchain industry specialist, about what blockchains are and how they work. Kiersten will also tell us about the impacts blockchains can and will have on the insurance industry including the real-world implementation lessons that she’s seen developing distributed application (dApp) tools with Melbourne start-up Flight Plan. She will also guide the audience through a “make our own blockchain” group activity.

MORE ABOUT KIERSTEN JOWETT:

As founder and CEO of a global manufacturing and distribution business Kiersten quickly saw how blockchain technology could help solve her supply chain and global remittance issues. At the time, blockchain technology was too immature to employ in her business but she researched the emerging technology with great fervour and in April 2016 sold her business and authored the book Cryptocurrency for Skeptics: the best kind of digital currency pupil (available on amazon). Kiersten now works fulltime with blockchain technology in her role at RMIT as Blockchain Business Strategy Mentor and at the Melbourne start-up, Flight Plan (theflightplan.io), where she helps build and iterate a rapid prototyping tool for distributed applications (dApps) on the Ethereum blockchain.
